Sri Dalada Maligawa located in the center of the hill capital of Central Province of Sri Lanka , Kandy. The Sri Dalada Maligawa is surrounded by lush green mountains, Kandy Lake and most of the Sri Lankan tea estates are situated close to Kandy mainly because of the pleasing weather the city has. The temple is open from dawn to dusk. It houses a tooth relic of the Lord Buddha, and is consequently considered one of Sri Lanka’s most holy shrines. The Sri Dalada Maligawa has a great religious value to Sri Lanka and Buddhists around the world. Because of these in 1998 the UNESCO declared Dalada Maligawa (The temple of tooth relic) as a world heritage site. There are many interesting places around Sri Dalada Maligawa and Lassana Sri Lanka will take you to each, one by one.
How to Get there
Kandy is situated 119 km from Colombo. There are several transportation options available to get to Kandy from Colombo, and will take about 3 hours to 4 hours depending on the traffic condition and weather condition since the country roads get slippery in wet conditions. Roads are in great condition with lots of places to see on the way.
| By Car By car you just have to drive on the well known Colombo Kandy A1 road without any turns. Condition of the road is excellent. Traffic conditions are varied as there might be some traffic blocks from Colombo fort to Nittambuwa, and in major towns and cities along the way and in rainy weather. There are number of renting option if you are looking to rent a vehicle. 3 hours. By Bus Colombo-Pettah Bus stand has both AC and Semi Luxury Busses and finding a Kandy Bus is extremely easy and buses are available at any given time both ways. If you’re traveling with lots of luggage buses are not a good option. But if you’re traveling light buses are a good hassle free option. 3.5 hours. Once you are in Kandy the best way to go around the city is by Tuk Tuk or walking. By Train There are train services operating multiple times daily to Kandy from the main train terminal in Colombo-Fort and also from Maradana train station. You can book seats on first and second class trains at the Colombo-Fort terminal. Most of the route is through waterfalls and green hill country and you can enjoy some amazing views, especially during the sun rise and sunset. 3-4 hours. There are Tuk Tuks available around the train station all day long. |

Kandy Lake
Located just next to the Dalada Maligawa ( Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic ). You can walk around the lake or just go for a boad ride on the Kandy Lake .
Tea museum
Sri Lanka’s Only tea museum is locatd just next to Kandy Town. The museum is a old Tea Factory converted by the government as a museum.
